Product Information
Ideal For
Used To Flavor Curries, Biryani, Pulao, Teas, And Spice Blends
Product Description
• Product Overview: Badiyan, or star anise, is a beautiful, star-shaped spice with eight pointed pods, each holding a glossy brown seed. Besides being one of the most visually striking spices, it has a sweet, warm fragrance that is a signature of biryani, pulao, garam masala and Chinese five-spice. Our star anise is whole, intact and richly aromatic.
• Ingredients: Star Anise.
• Flavour & Aroma: Star anise tastes sweet and liquorice-like with a warm, slightly peppery edge. A single pod is enough to perfume a whole pot, so it is best used sparingly. The flavour mellows during slow cooking, adding an elegant background sweetness.
• Best Uses & Recipe Ideas:
◦ Biryani and pulao: add one or two pods to the whole-spice tadka for a fragrant, restaurant-style rice.
◦ Garam masala: grind with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper for a homemade masala blend.
◦ Masala chai: drop a pod into the tea while boiling for a subtle sweet fragrance.
◦ Stocks and soups: simmer with ginger and spring onions for noodle broths and meat stocks.
◦ Mulled drinks and desserts: use in kadha, poached fruits, mulled wine or rice kheer.
• Traditional Use & Wellness Note: Star anise is used in kitchens and herbal teas in many Asian countries. In Indian homes, it is added to whole-spice tempering and warming drinks in the cold months. It is meant to be used as a flavouring in small quantities.
• Cooking Tips: One or two pods are plenty for a pot serving four to six people. Remove the pod before serving, as it is not meant to be eaten whole. For a more intense aroma, toast the pods lightly in a dry pan.
• Quality & Purity: Star Anise (Badiyan) is cleaned, sorted and carefully packed so that every pack delivers uniform, premium-quality spice with natural aroma. We do not add artificial colours, artificial flavours or fillers, so what you receive is the pure ingredient listed above and nothing else.
• Storage & Shelf Life: Keep Star Anise (Badiyan) in a clean, dry, airtight glass or steel jar away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Close the lid tightly after every use and always use a dry spoon. Stored properly, whole spices hold their aroma and flavour far longer than ground ones.
• Kitchen Handy Tip: Whole spices are best bought in smaller quantities and replenished regularly, so that you always cook with fresh, fragrant spice rather than a stale one.
• Dietary Suitability: Made entirely from a single plant-based ingredient, Star Anise (Badiyan) is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. It contains no added sugar and no artificial additives, and it fits easily into traditional Indian, continental and Asian home cooking.
• Usage Guide: whole spices are strong, so begin with a small amount, usually a pinch to one teaspoon for a family-sized dish, depending on the recipe. You can always add more later, but you cannot take it out once the dish is cooked.
• Bulk & Gifting: popular with families who stock up for the season, with caterers who need dependable quality, and with customers who like to assemble their own masala boxes or festive hampers.
• Why Choose This: Suitable for home kitchens, restaurants, caterers, tiffin services and festive cooking. Buy it in the pack size that suits your needs and enjoy the same consistent taste in every meal. It also makes a thoughtful addition to a gift hamper of Indian spices.
• Note: Please check the pack label for net weight, batch details, best-before date and allergen information before use. Images are for representation only; the colour and size of natural products can vary slightly from batch to batch.
